On Jan 1st, 2005 Paltel launched Subscription Free Internet service (SFI) to afford Internet accessibility over PSTN lines at all Palestinian urban, rural and camp areas.
Connect to Internet through traditional dialup access becomes more easy directly without subscription fee, login name and password by using SFI service. Subscription Free Internet caused a significant shakeup in the Internet market in Palestine, and particularly in the dialup access market. It replaced the dialup services offered prior to its launch.
Now subscribers have accessibility to connect to internet via 106 SFI numbers belong to 43 SFI providers (26 at West Bank and 17 at Gaza Strip) competing at allover the country by providing special content and promotional campaigns.”
Service Features
Subscription Free Internet (SFI) enables subscribers to access the internet without subscribing also with an internet service providers (ISP), and without the need for a login name and password. Any subscriber with a computer and fixed phone line can access the internet via a special access number (there is a special number for every ISP).
The subscriber will be free to select the ISP he or she deems appropriate based on quality or special offers.
Overall Goal of the Service
1. To increase the use of internet by making internet service available for all fixed lines in Palestine, at the same price and quality.
2. To spread computer culture and increase internet browsing by offering internet access without subscription fees. This will contribute to the development of the community, as well as raise cultural and technological awareness.
3. To facilitate access to the internet for all Palestinians.
4. To put Palestine on the map of the developed world in the field of IT.
Access Numbers
1. Every ISP will be assigned a Access Number. Each ISP will request the desired number (010 XXXXXX) from the PALTEL Sales Department, and will promote and market this code.
2. The available codes range between (010)/000000-(010)799999. Assignment of these numbers will be according to special regulations within PALTEL.
Certain Non-Beneficiary Categories excluded from using Subscription Free Internet
are the following:
- Government lines
- Company lines
- Public phones
- Net Forever subscribers (service will not be available to this group).
Important Note:
In case this service is requested by any company, the procedure for providing phone service to companies will be applied. Applications shall bear the signature of the applicant company's manager.
Connection/Disconnection Fees
No fees are imposed for connecting or disconnecting Subscription Free Internet.
Internet Calls & Detailed Statements
A separate category for internet calls will be inserted into the customer invoice. The customer will then be able to demand a detailed statement showing all internet calls, either from PALTEL service centers or from PALTEL's webpage.
Line Error Reporting
To report a failed line, call the Error Reporting Center (Faults Center) by dialing 167 and report the problem to the technical support unit in the Internet Department/Information Technology Department. This unit, operating 24-hours-a-day, reports to the Internet Department. The technical support unit at the Internet Department will solve the line problem at no cost to the customer via its computerized system. If the subscriber approaches the ISP, the ISP will refer the complaint to the technical support unit in the Internet Department, which will respond and solve the problem in coordination with the ISP.
